New Teacher Evaluation Update

The Legislature recently heard testimony on how the new evaluation system was working. Everyone reported that the new system was to time consuming and placed extreme hardships on teachers and principals. The defenders of the PED on the committee dismissed the concerns as educators afraid of being evaluated on student performance. Again, NMACT strongly believes that student performance needs to be an integral part of teacher evaluations. The difference is we believe that performance should be judged in its entirety not one high stakes test. Unless the lawsuit prevails this situation is only going to deteriorate. I know New Mexico teachers are among the best in the nation and our challenges are enormous but together we will get through this. One New Mexico Teacher
